Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food is an annual event where cub scouts and thier parents collect non-perishable food items for those less fortunate. The items go to the Golden Strip Emergency Relief & Resource Agency, an agency that helps families who are experiencing a financial emergency. The Agency assists with the family’s essential needs like food, utilities, rent, medication, and referrals to health, education, and counseling services.

Important Dates:

Sunday, January 22: Neighborhood Assignments Due
Monday, January 29: Post signs in neighborhoods
Thursday & Friday, February 2 & 3: Pass out flyers

Saturday, February 4:

  • 9:00am: Pick up food in neighboorhoods.
  • 10:30am - 11:00am: Return food to Advent and transfer to boxes
  • 11:30am: Drop food off at the Golden Strip Emergency Relief & Resource Agency

Scout Sunday

Where: Advent United Methodist Church
When: February 12, 2012
Time: Choose one: 8:30 AM, 9:55 AM, 11:15 AM

I met with the Evangelism Committee last night, and will confirm shortly with the Worship Committee, to set the tentative plans for Scout Sunday. We would appreciate participation from all three scouting groups at Advent.

I would appreciate each Pack/Troop selecting a leader for this effort, so I can coordinate through them to each group. Please let me know who that is I can work with them more closely, and also make sure the leaders get together to coordinate with each other.

The following are the minimum of what we would like to have by service, additional greeters and ushers can be accommodated if they volunteer:

In addition, Advent would like to present a video/slide show during the offering (approximately 5 minutes in length) that shows information about the following:

·         History of Scouting in general (maybe 2-3 slides or very short video)

·         History of Scouting at Advent (Pack Histories, Troop History)

·         Combination of pictures, video, slides with data/information

·         General Information about Scouts at Advent (Pack/Troop sizes, demographics, activities, etc.)

·         Photos/Video of Scouts in action around Advent

·         Photos/Video of Scouts in action outside Advent

The committee/staff will put the presentation together, as scouting organizations we need to provide them with the raw data/photos/video for them to use. It will be projected onto the large screens on each side of the alter during the offering while the music is playing.  In addition, if you have scouting activities that you think would be good to photograph/film over the next few weeks (i.e. Pinewood Derby, camping trips, etc.), please let me know those as well and we’ll get them coordinated with someone from the committee/staff to cover.  We will plan to cover the Pinewood Derbies on Jan. 30th.

If you could put the word out to your scouts/parents/leaders, and get this activity cranked up, I would appreciate it.
