Gobbler Grab
Packs 733 and 833 are once again participating in the BSA's Order of the Arrow Gobbler Grab. The Order of the Arrow is the Boy Scout Honor Society with 480 Boy Scouts in the local lodge. The Blue Ridge Council Order of the Arrow began the Gobbler Grab in 1997 and in the twelve years since, has provided 100% of the turkeys used by area food banks and shelters to feed hungry people on Thanksgiving Day.
In 2007, our first year to participate in Gobbler Grab, we collected 32 turkeys from the Advent family and our Cub Scout families. Last year, 28 turkeys and $275 in turkey tickets combined to provide 64 turkeys. This year the Cub Scouts are shooting for 70 combined turkey and/or Turkey Ticket donations.
Here's how you can help:
- We need several volunteers to collect turkeys and sell Turkey Tickets at Advent UMC on Sunday, November 15th at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. for about 20 minutes.
- We need several volunteers to collect turkeys and sell Turkey Tickets at Advent UMC at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11th and Wednesday, November 18th for about 30 minutes.
- If you would like to donate a frozen turkey (8 to 10 lb. size), the OA is collecting all of the turkeys on Thursday evening, November 19th, and Saturday morning, November 21st at Simpsonville United Methodist Church. We also need help transporting the turkeys we collect down to Simpsonville UMC.
Please contact Debbie Cotterman if you have any questions about the Gobbler Grab or are able to help out. Thank you!
